Soy estudiante de cuarto año de la Licenciatura en Salud Pública en el Instituto Tecnológico de Lake Washington y soy enfermera desde hace diez años. He creado un juego basado en la salud para fomentar la reflexión sobre la Demencia. Este proyecto será mi culminación para este último año, con el objetivo de crear más juegos relacionados con la atención médica que brinden educación y conciencia, en un formato divertido y atractivo.
Abstract
The vision of this game was to teach and reinforce appropriate and whole care for adults experiencing dementia and cognitive decline. The fun and engaging format was intended to provide levity to the serious and unexpected nature of Memory Care, with the main audience of student Nurses and CNAs, Cognitive Decline/Memory Care workers, and family members of individuals experiencing dementia’s transitions. The intent of the game was to familiarize players to various aspects, bonuses, challenges, and policies within Memory Care in the Western US. A Pre- and Post-Game Dementia Assessment quiz was created to measure knowledge and new knowledge and personal experience gained from play. The card game was designed to parallel real experiences through a humanizing lens using cats rather than humans. The game booklet includes resources cited, a cognition quiz mimicking that of Memory Care Settings, instructions, and lots of educational information and patient family suggestions for coping with Dementia. Feedback from playing the Herding Cats Game about Dementia has suggested that this could be a fun learning exercise, and should be expanded upon in the future.
